How can I calculate the numeric derivative (nDeriv) on the TI-89 family, TI-92 Plus, and Voyage 200 graphing calculators?

To find a numeric result for a derivative at a given value, use the WITH ( | ) function.

Example: To find the numeric derivative of 2x³ when x=2, enter the following:

nDeriv(2x^3, x)|x=2

or

d(2x^3,x)|x=2  (The d( ) function is accessed by pressing [2nd] [8].)

Both functions will return 24.

If the value of x is not specified, the symbolic derivative will be displayed.
