Solution 37275: Troubleshooting a TI-Nspire CX or TI-Nspire CX CAS Calculator That Will Not Turn On or Function Properly.
What troubleshooting steps can I try if the TI-Nspire CX or TI-Nspire CX CAS calculator will not turn on or function properly?
Please Note: Ensure that there are no buttons that are stuck down below the keypad and please ensure that the reset button located on the back is not stuck down below the bottom case. If it appears stuck, use a paper clip to move it back into position. It is very important to not use an object that can leave behind debris, such as a pencil.
If the TI-Nspire CX or TI-Nspire CX CAS calculator will not turn on please follow the steps below:
1) Attempt to charge the calculator by connecting to a computer or wall adapter. If the calculator boots up check if the charge indicator displays a low charge, if it does let the calculator charge for a couple of hours.
Please Note: If you are using a wall charger, make sure you are using the TI wall charger or other UL-certified USB charger rated for at least 1 amp (usually written as “1A” or “1000 mA”). To determine whether your charger is UL-certified, flip it over to the inside, and read the label. Look for the UL stamp, and confirm that it states that it is 1000 mA or higher.
2) Press the reset button on the back of the calculator.
3) Remove the battery door from the back of your calculator, disconnect the TI Rechargeable Battery, and then reconnect it.
4) Remove the battery door from the back of your calculator, disconnect the TI Rechargeable Battery, connect the calculator to a computer or wall adapter. Verify if this allow the calculator to turn on. If it does please contact TI-Cares for options available to receive a replacement battery.
5) If you have access to another working TI-Nspire CX or TI-Nspire CX CAS you can try removing the battery from the working calculator and swap the battery with the non-working calculator and verify if this allow the calculator to turn on. If it does please contact TI-Cares for options available to receive a replacement battery.
If the TI-Nspire CX or TI-Nspire CX CAS calculator is not functioning properly please follow the steps below:
1) Press the reset button on the back of the calculator.

2a) Steps for TI-Nspire CX or TI-Nspire CX CAS WITH a Blue Reset Button:
Begin by holding down the reset button for 5 seconds. Release the reset button, press and hold the [doc] [enter] and [EE] keys, and press and release the [on] key.
2b) Steps for TI-Nspire CX or TI-Nspire CX CAS WITHOUT a Blue Reset Button:
Begin by holding down the reset button. With the reset button held down, press and hold the [doc] [enter] and [EE] keys, then release the reset button.
3) The calculator will boot up as in the previous reset, but will display a menu with the following maintenance options:
1. Cancel - The most non-intrusive reset option; no changes are made, the calculator restarts.
2. Delete Operating System – The operating system will be deleted without deleting any documents.
3. Delete Document Folder Contents – This will delete the user’s documents, but will not delete the OS.
4. Complete Format – This will delete the OS and all documents for a total erase of memory.
4) Please try options 1, 2, 3, and 4 from the TI-Nspire CX / TI-Nspire CX CAS Maintenance Options* in that order. Options 2 and 4 above require that the OS be reinstalled. The reset menu will only display if the calculator is off using the steps as described above.
