Solution 11979: Purpose of the GarbageCollect Function on the TI-83 Plus Family, TI-84 Plus Family or TI-Nspire™ Handheld in TI-84 Plus Mode.
What does the GarbageCollect function do on the TI-83 Plus family, TI-84 Plus family or TI-Nspire handheld in TI-84 Plus mode?
The GarbageCollect function on the TI-83 Plus family, TI-84 Plus family or TI-Nspire handheld in TI-84 Plus mode allows the cleanup of unused archive memory.
It deletes unarchived variables from the user data archive and it rearranges the remaining variables into consecutive blocks. When a variable is unarchived, the amount of free Archive memory increases immediately, but the space is not actually available until after the next garbage collection.
To use the GarbageCollect function, follow the steps below:
1) Press [2ND] [0] to display the CATALOG menu.
2) Press [TAN] to "jump" to the "G" category of the CATALOG menu.
3) Press [ENTER] to paste the GargageCollect function onto the home screen.
4) Press [ENTER] to display the Garbage Collect prompt.
5) Press [2] to begin garbage collection.
